Preview: WGLL Tournament of Champions team ready for district play

WINTER GARDEN The 2017 District 14 Tournament of Champions (ages 8 and 9) team representing Winter Garden Little will begin play this evening at South Lake Little League in Clermont.

The team is coached by Manager William "Billy" Vaughn and coaches Jamie Green and Raja Sandhu.

Ahead of the tournament, Vaughn reflect on his team's strengths and what it will need to do to be successful.

"They're all athletes," Vaughn said. "To win, and be successful in the tournament, they're going to need to work hard and work as a team."

Additionally working in their favor, the boys from Winter Garden have some familiarity in spite of their young age.

"A lot of the boys have been playing together for a number of years," Vaughn said. "They work well together."

Winter Garden will open play today at 6:30 p.m. against Dr. Phillips. On Friday, it will play South Lake at 6:15 p.m. Over the weekend, Winter Garden will take on Windermere - National at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Windermere - American at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. The team will close pool play with a game at 6 p.m. Monday against Ocoee.

The top two teams from pool play will play in the championship game on Tuesday.
