Two West Orange baseball alumni squared off as the starting pitchers in this past weekend’s ACC Championship Game in Louisville, Kentucky.

Andrew Karp (Class of 2014) got the start for Florida State, while Tyler Baum (Class of 2016) got the start for North Carolina.

Austin Bergner, a 2016 Windermere Prep graduate who started his varsity career at West Orange, also pitched in relief for the Tar Heels (47-12).

After trailing 3-0 early, the Seminoles (39-20) rallied for a 7-3 victory. Drew Mendoza, an alum of nearby Lake Minneola High, homered twice for Florida State.

Karp allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings of work. Baum allowed one run (earned) in two-and-one-thirds-innings of work. In relief, Bergner did not allow any runs in one-and-two-thirds-innings on the mound.
