The Olympia volleyball team started strong and didn't relent in a sweep of Newsome (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) in the FHSAA Class 9A Regional Quarterfinals.
"We came out really, really sharp — I was really happy with our start," Titans head coach Mitch Sadowsky said. "Some of the issues that have plagued us a little bit this year — getting out to leads, making some weird mistakes and letting (the lead) evaporate — we really didn't do at all tonight."
The victory brings Olympia to 19-9 on the season and means the Titans will face the winner of a regional quarterfinal match between Sarasota's Riverview High and Orlando's Freedom High. Should it be Riverview that advances, it will make for some added incentive for Olympia — the Titans were eliminated in the playoffs by Riverview in 2015 and 2016.
"I don't have to worry too much about the motivation side — they're motivated," Sadowsky said of the possible match against Riverview. "What we need to do going into practice for the next few days before that match is to take care of a lot of the technical issues that we need to shore up."
The regional semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m.
