A lucky resident from Winter Garden has claimed a $1 million check from the Florida Lottery this week.

Joshua Hudgins, 39, picked the winning million from the Billion Dollar Gold Rush Supreme scratch-off game on Wednesday, June 15.

Hudgins chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $880,000 which he claimed at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

The Winter Garden resident said he purchased his winning ticket from a Wawa in Kissimmee, located at 7940 West Irlo Bronson Highway. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.

According to the Florida Lottery, scratch-off games are an important part of the lottery's portfolio, comprising approximately 75% of ticket sales and generating more than $1.3 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in Fiscal Year 2020-21.

As part of that portfolio, Billion Dollar Gold Rush Supreme allows buyers to play with the overall winning odds of one-in-2.59.

Launched in February 2021, the scratch-off features four top prizes of $15 million as well as 24 prizes of $1 million.
