With hurricane season starting Monday, June 1, the city of Winter Garden is encouraging residents to begin preparing now with tree trimming.

The city is urging residents to start trimming trees and placing yard waste and other outdoor debris out on yard waste collection days for pickup now instead of waiting until the days before a hurricane approaches.

The city said its Solid Waste Division cannot accommodate special pickup days before a storm because city crews are preparing for the storm citywide.

If residents leave debris on the curb, it can become flying projectiles that could potentially damage property and cause harm.

As residents trim their trees and collect their yard waste, they should be mindful that the city can only pickup yard waste each week that is equal in size to three washing machines side-by-side. Any piles larger than that can result in an added solid waste fee.
