Oakland Nature Preserve is offering a guided tour from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.

The tour will go into the Uplands at Oakland, focusing on how and why fire is used to maintain its restored Sandhill habitats.

The Preserve notes that those who wish to participate must register in advance and pay a fee, $8 for non-members and $5 for members.

The Oakland Nature Preserve also recommended that participants dress for the weather with sun and bug protection, as well as close toed shoes and a hat, while remembering the importance of reusable water bottles to succeed in this tour.

After the tour, participants will be able to enjoy some ice cream on the porch.
