As part of the city of Ocoee’s Centennial Celebration, officials will host a time capsule ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, on the lawn of the historic Withers-Maguire House, 16 E. Oakland Ave.

This community celebration is free and open to the public.

This special event commemorates 100 years of Ocoee’s history and showcases a collection of meaningful items contributed by both city departments and community members. While the time capsule will not be installed during the ceremony, it — and all contributed items — will be on public display for attendees to explore and enjoy.

The evening will begin with welcoming remarks from Mayor Rusty Johnson, followed by reflections from Ocoee’s elected officials. Students from the Ocoee High School Jazz Band will provide live entertainment throughout the event. A photo area featuring a balloon arch will be available for guests to capture this memorable occasion, and refreshments will be served by local restaurants from downtown McKey Street.

The time capsule, once sealed and installed, will be marked with a special commemorative marker. It is scheduled to be opened in the year 2125, giving future generations a glimpse into the lives and legacy of Ocoee residents today.

“We’re proud to honor Ocoee’s past, present and future with this special community event,” Mayor Rusty Johnson said. “This time capsule represents the spirit and dedication of our city and its people.”
