After six weeks of throwing his hat in the ring for the Orange County School Board chair, Mike Armbruster has decided to drop out of the race.

Armbruster has more than 35 years with the district, serving as a teacher, coach, principal and deputy superintendent.

He took to social media to announce he decided to run for School Board chair because he believed "that the road was the right road for me, for the right reasons at the time."

"But after heading down this road for the past six weeks and learning what I've learned about politics and how it works from this side, I have come to realize that I am on the wrong road," Armbruster wrote. "I am not a politician and don't want to become one. I don't want to lose who I am and have been for decades."

He thanked everyone who supported him, endorsed him, met with him, donated to his campaign and offered to do anything to help with his campaign for School Board chair.

"As a young man, I would have stayed on the wrong road out of pride," he wrote. "Life has since taught me over the decades not to do that at 64 years old."
