A fatal crash occurred on Avalon Road and New Independence Parkway at around 9:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision involved two vehicles, both which overturned upon impact.

According to a press release from the FHP, vehicle one, a Honda SUV, was stopped westbound at a stop sign on Independence Parkway while vehicle two, a Ford F-150, was traveling southbound on Avalon Road.

Vehicle one pulled into the intersection and the front of vehicle one struck the left side of vehicle two. Both cars overturned and the driver in vehicle two, who was documented as not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, FHP said in the release.

The driver in vehicle two was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. The driver from vehicle one suffered from minor injuries.

Locals have been imploring county officials for a stoplight at the intersection. A hill on the scene makes the stop sign difficult to see.

The crash is currently still under investigation.
