In Winter Garden, one woman attempted stealing nearly $550 worth of books and gifts for a baby shower. In Ocoee, a man at a bar was arrested for verbally threatening a security officer.

WINTER GARDEN

March 24

3343 Daniels Road. Grand theft. At approximately 2:20 p.m., police officers were dispatched to a Target in reference to a shoplifting incident. Dispatchers were informed a woman had left the store without paying for merchandise. Once the female suspect was identified and located in a nearby shoe store. According to an arrest report, surveillance footage showed the woman selecting miscellaneous items throughout Target and placing them in her shopping cart. She was then seen at the store’s self-checkout area, but neglected to scan the books and several items still in her shopping cart. She made her way toward the store’s exit before she was stopped by a loss protection officer, who asked to speak with her about the unpaid merchandise. At that point, the woman abandoned the cart and exited the store. The unpaid merchandise, which totaled $545.21, included items used for breastfeeding and 19 books. According to the woman, the books were for a book club, but she did not have the money to purchase them, and the other items were for a baby shower she had planned to attend. The woman was charged with grand theft exceeding $300.

OCOEE

March 25

443 W. Silver Star Road. Aggravated assault. At midnight, officers received a call about a public disturbance at a local bar. According to an arrest report, a man had made life-threatening comments to a security officer who had attempted to make him leave the business because he was allegedly being hostile to other customers. The man used profanity toward the security officer, and said, “I will f___  you up,” according to the report. The bar owner also came outside and asked the man to leave because it was not the first time the man had caused damage to the property. The man then insulted the bar owner’s mother, and the bar owner instructed the security officer to call the police. Upon hearing they would call police, the man allegedly grabbed his belt and caused the officer to believe the man meant to cause them bodily harm. The security officer then pulled out her taser, and the man walked away. The man was later located in the vicinity and detained. Police officers found two bags containing seven grams of cocaine on his person. The man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

WINDERMERE

March 20

Stoneybrook West Parkway. Grand theft. At about 12:40 a.m., a police officer traveling westbound on Conroy Windermere Road spotted a silver Nissan sedan bearing a tag that’d been reported stolen out of Tampa. The vehicle, which was registered to the Hertz car rental company, was reported stolen for failure to be returned. The officer pulled over the suspect vehicle and spoke with the driver who stated he had rented the car through Hertz as part of a Lyft program. According to Hertz, the vehicle was confirmed as stolen in the company’s system. The driver was arrested and charged with third-degree grand theft of a motor vehicle.
