Mayor Stark recognized for 25 years

The Florida League of Cities honored the mayor at the Jan. 14 commission meeting.

Oakland Mayor Kathy Stark has been honored with the John Land Years of Service Award from the Florida League of Cities. She was recognized for 25 years of public service.

Mark Sittig, of the League of Cities, presented a framed resolution to Stark during the Jan. 14 Oakland Town Commission meeting.

The honor recognized her “unselfish commitment to municipal leadership and governance.”

The resolution read, in part: “Municipal leaders strive for excellence in the governance of their city, town or village and commit themselves to providing quality services, governing effectively and working to improve the quality of life.”

The Years of Service recognition is named in honor of John Land, the mayor of Apopka from 1949 to 2014.
