MASON WILLIAMS

A little over five years to the day since Mason Williams was drafted by the New York Yankees, the West Orange High School alum has been called up to the big leagues.

In a release, the Yankees announced on June 11 that the talented outfielder has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Per the release, the Yankees "will have the outfielder in uniform on Friday as they open a three-game series with the Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore."

Williams, age 23, was batting .321 (26-for-81) with seven doubles, one triple and 11 RBIs in 20 games at Triple-A after beginning the season with Double-A Trenton. Overall, he is batting .318 with 14 doubles, 22 RBIs and 13 steals in 54 Minor League games this season.

A fourth-round selection of the Yankees in the 2010 Draft, Williams is the son of former NFL wide receiver Derwin Williams. Though Williams' stock has slipped in recent years, it has been reported that he regained his prized status within the organization recently and is being rewarded for his impressive start to the season.
