Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn congratulated retired Army Lt. Colonel Dennis Freytes who recently became the first Windermere-area veteran to be inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.

WINDERMERE The town of Windermere celebrated Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, with a special event at town hall. From 4 to 10 p.m., town residents could drop by to meet veterans as well as currently active-duty military members, grab a bite to eat from local food vendors learn about veterans organizations, enjoy some music and hear messages from guest speakers. The kids got to enjoy a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course and face painting. The keynote speaker for the evening was retired Lt. General Jay Garner, a Windermere resident who was appointed as the Director of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance in January 2003.
