The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch through 11 p.m. for parts of northern and Central Florida, including West Orange County.

The watch, which means that tornadoes, hail and wind gusts are possible in the weather conditions, stems from Hurricane Hermine.

The storm was recently upgraded to a hurricane, and it is projected to make landfall in the panhandle late Thursday or early Friday.

The hurricane will not directly hit the area, but residents should be prepared for effects from rain bands stemming from the storm.

Orange County Public Schools has canceled all away games and extracurricular activities for today, though school remained in session.
