Bobby Olszewski endorsed by former opponents

Robert “Bobby” Olszewski, one of the two remaining candidates for Orange County Commission District 1, received endorsements from two former opponents in the primary election.

Because neither candidate received at least 50% of the vote in the primary election, Olszewski and Betsy VanderLey are now both campaigning hard for the Nov. 8 general election.

The two former opponents, Nuren Haider and Usha Jain, finished and third and fourth in the primary race behind Oakland resident VanderLey, who received 45.54% of the vote, and Winter Garden City Commissioner Olszewki, who received 35.54% of the vote.

"There is no doubt that Bobby Olszewski is the best choice to be our next Orange County Commissioner in District 1,” Jain said in her endorsement of Olszewski. “He will treat everyone fairly and will not be influenced by special interests.  He grew up in Dr. Phillips and Windermere and has lived in our community his entire life.  Bobby will always look out for the people.  I am proud to endorse Bobby Olszewski for the Orange County Commission and ask that you vote Bobby O in November because he will not tolerate cronyism."

Haider wrote that Olszewski, from what she has observed of him, is “an honorable man who will serve all members our community with integrity and transparency.” Haider believes Olszewski will cater to the community’s best interests “regardless or race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.”

Olszewski expressed appreciation for his former opponents’ endorsements. 

"I am grateful for the endorsements of Nuren Haider and Usha Jain as we all agree that we need to put Residents and Community First in Orange County District 1 by rising above the culture of cronyism and special interests," Olszewski said in a press release. "I am honored for their support and commitment in our campaign."
