OAKLAND –The Oakland Police Department responded to a call around 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, regarding a truck that had struck a 3-year-old male child.

The crash occurred at Lake Johns Motel, a mobile home community located at 15992 W. Colonial Drive, said Oakland Police Lt. John Peek.

The pickup truck, which was towing a flatbed trailer, was driving forward when it collided with the child who ran out into the street.

Both parents were present at the time of the crash, and the child was immediately taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital via an ambulance and died at 4:44 p.m.

No other information was available.

UPDATE:

Oakland PD has sent media a revised press release with a correction. The pickup truck was driving forward, not backing up when it struck the child, who ran out into the street.

At this time, the parents are not being charged with any crime and no decision on charges have yet been made for the driver. As this is is still an active investigation, Oakland PD has not released names.
