When the 2020-21 school year rolls around, Oakland Avenue Charter School will start running its own VPK program.

Town leaders voted during the Oakland commission meeting Tuesday, Feb. 11, to allow the school to take the program's management under its wings.

OACS has contracted with ASP Inc. for more than 15 years to provide its VPK program. School staff decided this year, according to town documents, to vet potential new vendors "due to a desire for a new delivery model and improved staffing consistency."

After reviewing potential vendors, the School Advisory Committee recommended taking approval steps to begin managing the VPK program internally starting in 2020-21. This includes all licensure and accreditation processes that may be required.

Check back for an in-depth story of the Feb. 11. commission meeting, including other items town leaders discussed, online and in print on Thursday, Feb. 20.
