Prep Football Recap 8/27

First official Friday night of the fall features new faces, big games

Football in West Orange County has now officially begun. There were plenty of games for fans to choose from, from first home varsity games to the big game in Camping World Stadium. Here is a recap of how each of the games went. 

West Orange went on the road to East River and decisively took care of business, defeating the Falcons 48-0 to start their season 1-0. Running back Terrell Walden scored three touchdowns to lead the way for the Warriors. 

Olympia held off a late charge by Wekiva to win 35-26 after being down 12-0 in the first quarter. Receiver Victor Jones Jr. caught two of quarterback CJ Brooks’ three touchdown passes as the Titans begin their 2021 campaign on a winning note. 

Lake Buena Vista was officially welcomed to West Orange County in a baptism by fire, losing to Windermere 48-0. The Wolverines were up at halftime 42-0 before putting in their backups for the rest of the game. 

The Ocoee Knights got their season started off right with a shutout win over Oak Ridge, winning by a score of 31-0. 

In what was anticipated to be the game of the week, the Dr. Phillips Panthers traveled to downtown Orlando to play Jones in Camping World Stadium. The Panthers lost to the Tigers 48-13. 

Foundation Academy travelled to Tampa to play Cambridge Christian and came away with a 27-0 victory. The win was the first career victory for first-year head coach Andre Walker. 

Horizon High School, the other new team in West Orange County, played their first game against Freedom. The Hawks fell 42-6. 

Central Florida Christian Academy lost to Mount Dora Christian 41-27.
