The Jersey Mike's Subs in Winter Garden is on its way to recovery after a driver plowed into the building last week.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, a car plowed into the building, injuring an employee standing inside, and bringing the glass door of the location down on top of her.

According to the official crash report filed by the Jersey Mike's, the incident occurred at 3:39 p.m.

The Winter Garden Police Department was notified at 4:04 p.m. and was quickly dispatched to the scene at 3310 Daniels Road Unit 108.

Police said the driver of the black Nissan Armada accidentally hit the gas as she reached for her credit card – slamming into the restaurant.

After the glass door was pulled off of her, police say the employee, who had just finished her shift and was leaving work, was taken to the hospital.

The crash reported stated that the employee said she had pain in her left arm, right leg and toes.

According to investigators, the driver was cited and their car was towed away from the scene. The diver and two other passengers in the vehicle reported no injuries.

Although the entrance to the building was initially demolished, the location is working quickly to get back on track. The business sustained damage to miscellaneous items, including drywall and furniture, which is estimated by the store owner to be about $50,000 of damage.

The Jersey Mike's reopened on Monday, Dec. 6, and currently has the missing door area boarded up while the damage is being assessed and fixed.

The sub location said it currently does not wish to comment on the injured employee, in order to keep their privacy, but that she is in recovery and suffered no long-lasting injury.

The owner of the Winter Garden Jersey Mike’s said he is grateful the accident didn’t happen at a busy time – when more people would have been inside and possibly hurt.
