Embrace Families gears up to spread holiday cheer

A recognized national leader in child welfare services is making an impact in the Central Florida community.

Embrace Families helps Orlando families overcome the root causes of abuse and neglect through programs that offer case management, and other prevention services. 

For the holiday season, the organization is taking its mission even further.

For many of the children, young adults and families served by Embrace Families, the holidays can be a heavy reminder of the housing instability, food insecurity, and personal struggle that can come from the absence of a traditional family.

Executive Director of Orange County Child Welfare Operations for Embrace Families Nicola Bailey, who oversees the West Orange area, said holiday events are some of the most important types of events the organization holds. 

"Holiday events are always important to the children we serve because it gives them an opportunity to feel special," Bailey said. "It shifts their focus away from the daily challenges they face and allows them to have some holiday fun and cheer. Lastly, it helps them understand that they are not alone; there are special people in the Central Florida Community who truly care about them."

The organization needs the communities help in providing more than 2,500 gifts for children and teens, as well as meals to those who care for them.

"I deeply care for the children and families in this community," Bailey said. "Embrace Families believes that every child deserves a safe, stable, and love home and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that this occurs. It is a privilege to be involved in a family’s life during one of their biggest crises and help them develop positive behavior changes."

Bailey emphasized that Embrace Families envisions a community that embraces vulnerable children and families, and that it hopes that the community will embrace them during this event.
