The second reading of an ordinance that would ban certain classifications of trucks on Marsh Road has been postponed.

Commissioners voted Thursday, March 11, to table the second reading until the March 25 City Commission meeting. This allows more time for city officials to meet with stakeholders – such as Clermont and Lake County officials, as well as representatives from various local sand mines – to try to come up with other solutions.

In the meantime, the original resolution commissioners passed Feb. 11 is still in place. The resolution establishes vehicle classification and weight limitations on a certain portion of Marsh Road, prohibits Class 6 through 13 vehicles from using the road, and adopts certain vehicle-weight limitations.

During the Feb. 25 City Commission meeting, the truck-ban ordinance was introduced and approved on first reading to correct some minor errors within the resolution. Should the ordinance eventually be approved, it will take the place of the resolution.

The ban has caused a stir among representatives from the sand mine company, Titan America, as well as city of Clermont and Lake County officials.
