Several West Orange High School students were recently selected to participate in the Orange County Public Schools All-County Orchestra.

The OCPS All-County series is a collection of concerts and performances celebrating student achievement, featuring young adults from the arts programs of OCPS.

According to WOHS Director of Bands & Orchestra Kenneth A. Boyd, the students recorded an audition that was adjudicated by the OCPS orchestra faculty. The best auditions were then selected to perform in the All-County Orchestra.

All 22 OCPS high schools were eligible to send students in the audition. Fourteen students were selected from WOHS.

The group is taught and directed by a special guest clinician each year.

Boyd explained that the clinician is often a well-known and respected musician teaching at the collegiate level.

This year, the conductor was renowned composer, conductor and educator Kirt Mosier.

The students performed on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Lake Nona High School.

"These students give all of themselves in every performance. They strive to improve daily. Their work ethic is astounding. But most importantly, they are wonderful young men and women," Boyd said. "They have an incredible understanding of their social and emotional selves and how to find that in the music they perform. The best part is they do all this without seeking fanfare or recognition."
