The Town of Oakland recently announced construction improvement plans for a local fishing pier.

The Jake Voss pier will be temporarily closed beginning Tuesday, Nov. 23.

According to the town, the pier will be going through first-phase construction of enhanced paved parking, sidewalks and storm water system improvements.

"The Oakland Town Commission approved improvements to the fishing pier structure, which combined with the first phase, will provide access for those with disabilities," the Town of Oakland said. " When completed, these improvements will bring the entire site up to ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, accessibility standards."

The town said it looks forward to reopening the pier with improved access for all.

The construction is expected to last a few weeks.
