ONP plans Pumpkin Glow

One of the trails at the Oakland Nature Preserve will be lined with jack-o'-lanterns created by residents.

The family-friendly Pumpkin Glow Jack-o’-Lantern Trail at the Oakland Nature Preserve takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30.

The trail will be lined with jack-o’-lanterns created by members of the community, making for an ethereal and beautiful nighttime hike.

This year's trail will begin at the south end of the boardwalk and proceed along the winding Green Trail back to the ONP parking area (about .3 miles). Bring flashlights and lanterns because the walk is otherwise dark.

Participants can dress in costume; there will be candy for the children.

Carved pumpkins are needed for the trail, and they can be fun or scary. Submitted pumpkins must be carved with a battery-powered light inside for illumination. They can be picked up the day after the event. Any left behind will be shared with the program animals.

Folks bringing jack-o’-lanterns can take part in a contest for best submission. They will be divided into age categories for children and adults.

Admission to the ONP Pumpkin Glow is donation based; all proceeds will benefit the Oakland Nature Preserve. ONP is at 747 Machete Trail, Oakland.
