One of the topics the Ocoee City Commission will discuss at their regular scheduled meeting on Sept. 7 is whether to take the first step in imposing a temporary moratorium on self-storage facilities in the city.

There are currently 11 self-storage facilities within Ocoee city limits. With a swiftly growing population, the city is wanting to examine whether some of the land these units are on can be used for commercial development instead.

The proposed moratorium would “allow staff to facilitate a study on the optimum carrying capacity of units based on current and future populations” to assess whether more units should be built in favor of commercial uses like strip malls or restaurants.

A second reading and public hearing on the proposed moratorium will be conducted at the Commission’s next meeting on Sept. 21.

The public can attend the meeting in person. The commission also posts its meetings on the City of Ocoee’s YouTube channel the day after.
