Orange County School Board to vote on banning e-bikes, e-scooters from elementary schools

Orange County School Board will hear public comments and take a final vote on the revised automobile use and use of micromobility devices Tuesday, July 28.

The new regulations on student micromobility devices, including bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, hoverboards and similar devices for transportation, prohibit elementary school students from bringing or operating the devices on OCPS property. 

An e-bike cannot exceed 750 watts and a maximum speed of 28 mph. Students are prohibited from bringing or operating modified and Class 3 e-bikes. All traditional and non-motorized devices are allowed. 

All middle and high school students who bring micromobility devices on school board property must walk all devices once at school and park them in designated bicycle racks or other approved locations.
