The City of Ocoee is coming together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month throughout September.

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the culture and contributions of Americans tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean.

According to a press release from Ocoee, the city recognizes the rich and diverse culture of its Hispanic and Latino residents.

On Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 6:15 p.m. a Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation will be read at the Ocoee City Commission meeting.

Ocoee will also celebrate the rich Hispanic culture with colorful framed posters featuring Hispanic art which are on display in the lobby at Ocoee City Hall and with festive “Ocoee Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month” pole banners along Clarke Road.

The city’s government station, Ocoee TV, is additionally airing a series titled “Latino Americans: The 500-Year Legacy that Shaped a Nation.”

The series is a documentary lasting six hours with interviews from nearly 100 Latinos who document more than 500 years of history.

Those who wish to watch the series can do so here or on Ocoee TV Spectrum Channel 493.
