The Garden Theatre is kicking the new year off with a fresh start.
The local community theater has been working with the city of Winter Garden on a series of repairs and replacements for the last few months.
After much planning, the work was completed the first two weeks of January.
The refurbishments included a fresh coat of paint, a refresh of the marquee, and the cleaning of audio and lighting materials, as well as upgrades to the bar, lobby area and interior of the theater.
"Traditionally, coming into the new year is a little bit of a slow time for shows and events in general," Garden Theatre COO Keith Davenport, said. "It gives us a chance to evaluate all that we've done over the past year and focus on the parts of the theater that may need a little love."
Davenport said the work could not have been completed without help from the city and staff.
"They always go above and beyond to make sure the Garden Theatre is treated like the gem that it is," he said. "They have such attention to detail, and we are lucky to have their partnership. They've done an outstanding job."
Although the Garden Theatre took a short break from programming to complete the work, the theater will return next weekend with Gary Roland & The Landskarks. The Jimmy Buffett tribute band will perform Friday, Jan. 26, and Saturday, Jan. 27. Click here to purchase tickets.
The Garden Theatre will then premiere its next show for the Broadway on Plant series with "All Shook Up," which will run from Feb. 16 through March 10. Click here to purchase tickets.
"The Garden Theatre really is the centerpiece for a lot of the things that happen on Plant Street," Davenport said. "We are an organization that operates almost every day and week throughout the year. Because of that, I always like to make sure that we're shining bright and that we represent our community. While we keep it engaged and fresh looking, we also want to focus on maintaining our historical site here in downtown Winter Garden."
The Garden Theatre is located at 160 W. Plant St., Winter Garden.
