On Wednesday, May 21, the Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested 26-year-old Deriko Hill in connection with the attack on a 90-year-old woman at the HarborChase senior living community in Dr. Phillips.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, April 29. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced Hill faces multiple felony charges, including burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, attempted sexual battery and battery against a person 65 years of age or older.
According to sheriff's office officials, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious individual at the Brookdale Senior Living facility, located at 8001 Pin Oak Drive, on Tuesday, May 20, at 11:40 p.m. The man seen at the scene matched the description of the suspect from the HarborChase incident and was identified as Hill.
Deputies quickly established a perimeter around the facility. Just before they began an interior search, Hill exited through a rear door and attempted to flee. Deputies apprehended him after a brief foot chase.
“No senior should ever be attacked in their home,” the Orange County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post on the incident. “Detectives from both our agencies have worked vigilantly to find this suspect and ensure that he can’t hurt any other seniors in our community.”
Hill reportedly confessed to his involvement in the HarborChase attack and to a separate case under investigation by the Orlando Police Department.
Both the OCSO and OPD have emphasized their commitment to protecting the senior population in Central Florida. Investigators continue to gather details from both cases and urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
Authorities encourage residents and families of those at local senior facilities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Although they have not disclosed how Hill gained access to the facilities, they stated that security measures at both locations are under review.
Hill remains in custody without bond as both agencies prepare to proceed.
