Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips opens behavioral health unit

The Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital opened its behavioral health unit Wednesday, Aug. 12. 

According to the hospital's press release, the behavioral health unit will serve as a secure and calm environment for those suffering from mental-health crisis while they await transfer to facilities to receive specialized care. 

The unit accommodates four patients at a time, with mental-health technicians assigned to support patients' temporary stay. 

“We recognize the important role that a peaceful setting contributes to a patient’s health and sense of well-being, so the unit is designed to foster a safe and calming environment to help provide our patients with the very best quality medical and mental health care that they deserve,” said Dr. Brian Head, chief of staff and chairman of emergency medicine for Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.

Units are decorated with nature-inspired murals and soft lighting to contribute to the tranquil environment.
