He has fallen in love with the community and in honor of the United States 250th anniversary and Independence’s 10th anniversary of existence he made a children’s coloring book.
The red, white and blue themed book depicts iconic symbols, historical landmarks, heroes and more, and Carlos Alejandro Mateo handed it out for free at Independence’s 10th annual Firework Spectacular Saturday, June 27.
The rainfall didn’t stop hundreds of Independence’s community members from coming together in their star spangled banner attire to enjoy food trucks, and a kids zone with foam and inflatables.
They lined together around Independence's 512-foot reflecting pond to enjoy the firework display.
