Construction firm to build headquarters in Winter Garden

VMG Construction aims to build its headquarters in Winter Garden.

The company – a commercial-construction subcontractor –submitted a rezoning request to the city of Winter Garden, which approved the proposed rezone’s first reading during the March 14 commission meeting.

VMG has requested city leaders to approve the rezoning of a 0.54-acre property located at 43 First Street from C-2 (Arterial Commercial District) to PCD (Planned Commercial Development. 

VMG plans to build a one-story, 3,200-square-foot office building on the south side of the property, according to city documents. Plans also include a new parking area, sidewalks, drive aisles and landscaping.

Currently, the property houses 1,800-square-foot masonry commercial office building constructed in 1920, and a 1,500-square-foot warehouse building constructed in 2016. The south side of the property has an asphalt-paved parking area.

The ordinance’s second reading is scheduled for the following Winter Garden City Commission meeting on March 28.

FERTILIZER USE

City leaders also approved the first reading of Ordinance 19-16, which will give the city authority to enforce Orange County’s fertilizer regulations. 

The city does not currently have any existing regulations pertaining to fertilizer use, according to city documents.

Orange County’s fertilizer restrictions forbids the use of fertilizer within 15 feet of any wetland or surface waters, including but not limited to a lake, pond, stream, water body, water course, or canal; as well a any impervious surface, public right-of-way, public property, stormwater drain, ditch, conveyance or waterbody.

The County also forbids the use of fertilizer containing phosphorus on turf or landscape plants, and fertilizer containing nitrogen – unless at least 50% of its nitrogen content is slow release.

The regulations will be enforced via fines. A first violation will receive written notice, a second violation may be subject to a fine of $50, or $500 in the case of a commercial applicator, and any third or subsequent violation may be subject to a $100 fine, or $750 for commercial applicators.
