ORLANDO — For the second time in three nights, the Apopka Blue Darters volleyball team scored a big time district win over an opponent from West Orange County.

Two nights after the West Orange Warriors fell to the Blue Darters in five sets, it was Olympia that could not a capitalize on a strong start and victory in the first set, with the Titans falling to Apopka, 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23).

“The biggest difference was we just didn’t spot our serves well,” Olympia coach Mitch Sadowsky said. “We got separation in the first set because, up through the first three-quarters of that set, we never missed a serve.

“We missed three serves after that and that’s what allowed them to pull back closer,” he said. “And (Apopka) served really well.”

The Titans (7-9, 3-3 in District 8A-3) were led by Martina Shamley’s 12 kills and 23 digs from senior libero Sadie Estrada. Olympia will now prepare to take on West Orange on Tuesday on the road — another big time district matchup and opportunity for the Titans to continue to improve.

“For us it’s taking the things we did do well, revaluate what we didn’t do well and just come back and work hard at practice on them,” Sadowsky said.

Apopka is now 10-1 overall and 5-1 in District 8A-3.
