A season of firsts continued on Jan. 6 for the Dr. Phillips girls soccer team.

The Panthers defeated Winter Park on the road last night, 1-0, after Shae Vevera broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute of play. It was the first-ever victory against Winter Park for the girls soccer program at Dr. Phillips after 35 previous attempts.

The Panthers (13-2-2) dropped their first two games of the season but have not lost since, rattling off a school-record 12-game winning streak along the way. DP has not lost a contest since Oct. 30.

Senior goalkeeper Sarah Kollas now has 12 shutouts on the season.

The Panthers will return to action on Friday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. on the road against Orangewood, before closing the regular season on Jan. 13 at home against Ocoee (game time is 6 p.m.).
