WEST ORANGE  The West Orange community lost one of its most beloved members in May, a border collie and reading-therapy dog named Sydney, when she lost her battle with leukemia.

But Sydney's legacy lives on with the help of her friends through the continuation of the organization she sparked, Read to Sydney. And on Saturday, Aug. 13, the community is invited to come celebrate her life with a free party. The celebration will take place at Sydney's Reading and Learning Center inside West Oaks Mall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring the kids and come to meet Sydney's friends, make crafts, enjoy snacks and play games.

"Come meet Sydney's friends who will be carrying out her mission to help children read, one 'tail' at a time," the event flyer reads.
