Learn about WGPD in citizens academy

The Winter Garden Police Department is accepting applications for its next Citizens Police Academy class.

The nine-week class is instructed by Winter Garden police officers and staff, who will discuss such topics as crime prevention, defensive tactics and investigations. Class participants will also be eligible to go on a ride-along with an officer.

The classes take place from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Aug. 31.

Anyone 18 years or older interested in participating can download an application at wgpd.com or pick one up at the Winter Garden Police Department, 251 W. Plant St. Attendees must be a resident or work in the city of Winter Garden to attend.
