BREAKING: Officer-involved shooting in Winter Garden

WINTER GARDEN Winter Garden Police Department detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday, May 13, at the West Point Commons shopping plaza, located at the corner of State Road 50 and Winter Garden-Vineland Road.

According to witnesses, police were called to the Italian Garden Pizzeria in response to a disgruntled former employee who had come to the restaurant for his last paycheck. After officers arrived, the former employee pinned one of the officers against a Dumpster in the parking lot and broke his leg. Two officers then discharged their weapons to subdue the suspect, witnesses said.

The officer and the suspect were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
