The nine crock pots were lined up on the tables, all filled with warm chili of a variety of flavors. Guest judges were Aldrick Alvarez, a member of Sunshine Kids, and his friend, Chris Ayala. Other community participants could pay $10 for the chance to sample the chili, plus wine and beer and cast their ballot for the people’s choice award.
The chili chefs were employees of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty, in Windermere: Beverly J. Shine, Samantha Andrew-Jarvis, Jane Dunkelberger, Laurel Kellett, Tom Murray, Jay Baratta, Donna Daniels, Marti Gabriel and Wesley Dunkelberger.
Winners were Daniels, first place; Andrew-Jarvis, second; and Baratta and Murray, tied for third.
The event raised almost $900 for the Sunshine Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children with cancer. The program provides group activities and emotional support for young patients.
