Twenty-three yards — that was the distance between West Orange and a big district win over Apopka on Friday night in Winter Garden.
Unfortunately for West Orange (5-3, 1-1) that distance was just a bit too much, as a late defensive stand by rival Apopka (6-2, 2-0) capped off a 27-21 win for the Blue Darters — putting a damper on homecoming night in Winter Garden.
Despite the tough loss, the offensive combo of quarterback Elijah Stimmell and wide receiver Darrell Harding Jr. showed flashes of brilliance, with Stimmell getting the ball into Harding's hands on 11 different occasions for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Stimmell would finish the night going 22-for-49 for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
The Warriors will look to rally back next Friday, Oct. 19, in a matchup at Evans (1-5, 0-1).
