Under second-year coach Vicky Veloz, the Foundation Academy girls volleyball team is off to a 6-2 start this fall and has won four of its past five games.

Moreover, the Lady Lions — our Observer Preps Team of the Week this week — have made a habit of winning exciting, five-set matches where they rally from behind.

Three teams in the past 15 days, Foundation has won five-set matches — Aug. 30 against Orlando Christian Prep (25-22, 25-23, 8-25, 21-25, 16-14); Sept. 4 against Legacy Charter (23-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-22, 15-10) and Sept. 11 against The First Academy-Leesburg (23-25, 26-24, 25-10, 18-25, 15-12).

The experience in close matches should prove valuable for the team as it wades deeper into district play and looks ahead to the district tournament and the postseason.

The Observer Preps Team of the Week feature is presented by State Farm Insurance Agent Jo Barsh.
