The Windermere Wolverines are winless no more.
The host Wolverines (1-3) dominated the second half Sept. 21 against the St. Cloud Bulldogs (0-4), extending a 20-14 halftime advantage into a 35-20 victory — the first in the second-year program's history.
"We knew the first one was going to be really hard," head coach Fred Priest said. "The kids practiced really hard this week — we corrected a lot of mistakes that we've been making. ... I had a good feeling about it if we could just carry it over into the game."
Senior quarterback Isaiah Jackson led the offense for the Wolverines, passing for two touchdowns while running for one more. Matthew Richardson and Jordan Dozier were on the receiving end of Jackson's touchdown passes, while Michael David Richardson ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns to key the rushing attack for Windermere.
On defense, Rodney Green led the way with five tackles (five solo) and three quarterback-hurries. Christian Mercado had a good nose for the ball Friday night, recovering one fumble and also hauling in an important interception.
Afterward, the Wolverines celebrated with their fans, band and cheerleaders at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park.
"It was fun," Dozier said. "The fans cheering — just everybody going wild — it was just fun."
