Senior Madison Sotkewicz is a captain of Windermere High’s girls soccer team. As a lifelong player and one of the few seniors on the team, she is valued for her knowledge of the game and for her strong leadership. After graduating, she will be attending Lees-McRae College in North Carolina on a soccer scholarship.

When did you start playing soccer, and what got you into it?

I’ve been playing since I was probably about 4 or 5 (years old). My parents (got) me into it to spend my energy. 

When did you start playing for school teams?

I started playing on school (teams) in middle school.

How’s the season been so far? How was the game against Wekiva High School on Jan. 9?

It’s been good. … We won 8-0 (against Wekiva).

How did it feel to shut out Wekiva?

It was good. It’s always nice to get to get home early and win with your team.

What’s something about your game that you want to improve?

I want to improve my speed of play and my touch on the ball.

What’s your favorite aspect of the game?

Playing with the girls. (I) like all the friendships that I make and all the experiences and memories that we get to make together.

Is there a particular game you’re looking forward to this year? 

Probably my senior night, just because it’s my last night with my team.

Do you have a favorite soccer team?

Orlando City.

Who is your favorite soccer player?

Alex Morgan. She plays for the Orlando Pride.

Tell us about the best piece of soccer advice you’ve received.

Work hard and never quit even if you feel down and like you’re not good enough — just keep working hard.

What are your plans for college?

I’m going to be attending Lees-McRae up in North Carolina to play soccer for them.

Any planned major?

Biology. 

What’s your favorite meal after a soccer game?

I usually eat a lot of pasta — any type of pasta.

What’s your favorite subject in school?

English. … I like to write.

How do you like to relax?

I like to watch a lot of movies and chill on the couch.
