Getting healthy with Healthy West Orange

Healthy West Orange is at it again, offering healthy activities for the community this summer and fall.

Here’s a fun opportunity for getting healthy this year! The Beary Healthy 5K Challenge is a three-part walk/run, with events stretching from August to October.

The first event is the Back to School WOW (West Orange Walk) at Hamlin in Horizon West. It starts at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. Participants can walk or run the 3.1 miles, with members of Orlando Health and Bears Who Care cheering them on.

The second event is Healthy Selfie 5K Your Way, taking place throughout September. Run or walk 3.1 miles on your own or at the Healthy Selfie 5K on Sept. 15 at Hamlin. Registrants will receive shirts and medals o a first-come, first-served basis. Quantities are limited.

The third event is OktoBEARfest from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Hamlin. See how much you've improved from the last two events and run the 3.1-mile course one more time. Run, walk or jog for a worthwhile cause, Bears Who Care, which provides teddy bears and books to children in need throughout the community. After the 5K, enjoy a morning of fun activities.

Participants who complete all three events will receive an exclusive race medal.
