Windermere Prep boys weightlifting team on Wednesday, March 30, became district champions for the first time in the school’s history.

The boys join the Lakers' girls team, which was crowned district champions during the winter season.

With 63 points total, the Lakers dominated the district meet. Foundation Academy, last year’s district champions, earned second place with 36 points; Trinity Prep got third with 31 points.

“Those guys have been training since their last season ended last year,” coach Micah Kurtz said. “They trusted our training, they trusted our program, and when they trust in us, believe in us and the hard work pays off, it’s awesome."

Dominic Edwards, Dean Shuffield, Sameer Siddique, Alex Choi and Isaac Kidd qualified for the regional meet that will take place April 6 at South Sumter High School.
