Five things we learned about West Orange-area teams, Oct. 6 to 7, 2022

Here are five takeaways from football action Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7.

West Orange- and Southwest Orange-area teams had varying degrees of success Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7. Here's what we learned from Week Seven of the 2022 season.

JAMES GETS THREE SACKS FOR TITANS
Despite the Titans' loss against Apopka Thurday, Oct. 6, quarterback  Juan Gainous went 19-for-30 for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Xavier Tucker had seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Romelo Walker had four receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, outside linebacker Joey Evans had 11 tackles (one TFL), while defensive end Kamran James had six tackles and three sacks. 

CFCA STILL UNDEFEATED
After defeating St. Edwards 42-7 Friday, Oct. 7, the Eagles remain undefeated this season as they prepare to face New Smyrna Beach later today. During Friday's game, running back Marcus McCrimmon Jr. carried the ball 16 times for 383 yards and scored four touchdowns. 

LIONS D STRONG AGAINST ORANGEWOOD CHRISTIAN
The Foundation Academy Lions defeated Orangewood Christian 23-7 Friday, Oct. 7. The team's defense had a powerful performance, as offensive and defensive linebacker Drew Flournoy ended the night with a total of 17 tackles, four sacks and six offensive pancake blocks. Defensive back Stephen Ford had nine tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. Despite being called on late in the game, running back Jadon Johnson scored a 50-yard touchdown run. 

OCOEE TOPPLES MIGHTY WINTER PARK
After being tied with Winter Park at the end of the fourth quarter 28-28 Thursday, Oct. 6, the Ocoee Knights were able to kick a field goal to top the previously unbeaten Wildcats in overtime. The team's defense had a total of 86 tackles — 18 TFL. Calvin Smith led the defense with 11 solo tackles, two assisted tackles and seven TFL. 

HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED
Horizon also came out on top in overtime Thursday, Oct. 6. After being tied with Cypress Creek 20-20 at the end of the fourth quarter, the Hawks were able to find the end zone in overtime to claim victory over the Bears. Devon St. Clair carried the ball 28 times for 129 yards, while Trey Ginn carried the ball 16 times for 79 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, the team had a total of 37 tackles. Bo Wargel and Jacob Brown led the defense with seven total tackles apiece.
