The Horizon High School girls volleyball team were crowned District 6-6A Champions after defeating Lake Minneola Thursday, Oct. 20.

The girls became the first sports team in Hawk Nation to earn a district championship title. They won the first set 25-11, the second 25-20 and the third 25-16.

"It's a record-setting win for our school, our first ever district championship," Horizon High School Athletic Director Scott Drabczyk said. "I am proud of them and the work they've put in. I'm really excited and happy for them to have that success so early on in the program."

After ending their regular season with an overall record of 20-4 and a district record of 5-0, the girls earned a spot in Horizon High's record books during the school's second year.

The Hawks now wait for the Class 6A brackets to be released this weekend to find out their opening round regional opponent.

Horizon will host an opening round game at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26.
