Horizon High School girls volleyball team wins first round of regionals

The Hawks continue to make school history after defeating the South Fork Bulldogs 3-1 Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The Horizon High School girls volleyball team defeated South Fork High School 3-1 during the first round of the Region II Tournament the night of Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The Hawks continue making school history and surprising opponents in its second year of existence. 

"I was proud of the girls, very gritty determined effort and they played well under pressure," Horizon head volleyball coach Earnest Rittenhouse said. 

It was a very even game with the Hawks winning the first set 25-20, the second set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-23. The Bulldogs were able to win the third set 21-25. 

"They were a very good opponent, they played very well," Rittenhouse said of the Bulldogs."They were a good all-around team. I was proud of our team's pressure points, that's what we like to call the points you really need at the end of a match. ... We were able to get those pressure points and the (girls) showed an amount of grit and determination." 

The Hawks are ready to play Oviedo High School during the regional semifinal round. The day and time of the game has yet to be set.
