Soccer squads continue championship pursuits

Several teams in West Orange and Southwest Orange will play for district championships this week.

After a long season and many games, several prep soccer teams from the West Orange and Southwest Orange areas are still battling on their quests for postseason glory. As of press time Tuesday, Jan. 31, these are the teams that still have a chance to become champions in their respective districts. 


DR. PHILLIPS
GIRLS

The Dr. Phillips girls varsity soccer team 2022-23 season has come to an end. 

With an 9-5-1 overall season record and a 3-0 district record, the Lady Panthers defeated Olympia 1-0 Tuesday, Jan. 31, during the districts semifinal game at Windermere High School. 

However, the Lady Panthers saw their season come to an end during the district championship game Thursday, Feb. 2 as they fell short  to Lake Nona 3-2.


FOUNDATION ACADEMY
BOYS

The Foundation Academy boys soccer team continue their pursuit for the Class 2A, District 6 regional championship title despite a 3-2 loss against Faith Christian Tuesday, Jan. 31. 

The Lions are set to face Circle Christian at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, during the regional quarterfinals. 

GIRLS

The Foundation girls varsity soccer team (12-4) became the Class 2A, District 6 champion after defeating Orangewood Christian 3-1 during the district championship game Thursday, Feb. 2, at Orangewood Christian. 


HORIZON 
BOYS

The Horizon boys soccer team became the Class 5A, District 6 champion after defeating Gateway 2-1 during the championship game Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Horizon High.

GIRLS

The Horizon girls soccer team fell to Auburndale 2-1 Wednesday, Feb. 1, during the district championship game. 


LEGACY CHARTER
BOYS

The Legacy Charter boys soccer team ended its season after falling short to Orangewood Christian 3-2 during the Class 2A, District 6 championship game Tuesday, Jan. 31. 


OLYMPIA
GIRLS

Olympia fell short on its quest for a championship in Class 7A, District 5, after falling to Dr. Phillips 1-0 Tuesday, Jan. 31, during the districts semifinal game. 


THE FIRST ACADEMY
GIRLS

The First Academy girls soccer team fell a bit short of becoming the Class 3A, District 5 champion after losing against Montverde Academy 5-0 during the district championship game Wednesday, Feb. 1.


WEST ORANGE
BOYS

The West Orange boys soccer team became the Class 7A, District 3 champion after defeating East Ridge Wednesday, Feb. 1. 

GIRLS

The West Orange High School girls varsity soccer team saw an end to its season after falling to East Ridge 5-0 Tuesday, Jan. 31, during the district semifinal game. 


WINDERMERE 
BOYS

Windermere became the Class 7A, District 5 champion after defeating Cypress Creek 4-1 Wednesday, Feb. 2, during the district championship. 


WINDERMERE PREP
BOYS

The Windermere Prep boys varsity soccer team ended its quest for the Class 3A, District 5 after tying to Lake Highland Prep 1-1 but falling short during a penalty shoot-out 3-0 Thursday, Feb. 2, at the district championship game.
