West Orange High has found a familiar face for its boys basketball team's bench.

The Warriors announced Tuesday, April 12, that Tyrone Curnell has been hired as the new head coach of the program. Curnell graduated from West Orange in 2006 and led the team to the State Final Four in 2005 as a player. He went on to become a first-team All-American at Seminole Community College and Valdosta State University. Following his college years, Curnell played 16 years of international professional ball and competed in eight countries, with seven championships under his belt.

After Curnell retired from professional basketball in 2025, he returned to West Orange and became a Exceptional Student Education paraprofessional and an assistant coach.

West Orange wrote on social media Curnell's philosophy is: "Work hard, stay disciplined, play all 40 minutes and enjoy playing for each other."

The Warriors' previous head coach, Eddie Johnson, who led the team for four years will continue to work at West Orange in the Language Arts department. The team went 6-18 last season.
