OCOEE  Nearly a week after Ocoee Police Department Officer Chris Bonner was seriously injured in a car crash, Florida Highway Patrol has cited him for failing to obey traffic laws.

Bonner, 29, was involved in the crash around 4:50 a.m. May 12. According to officials, he was traveling northbound on Orange Blossom Trail pursuing a fleeing stolen car in his 2014 Dodge Charger with his lights and sirens activated as he approached Holden Avenue.

As he entered the intersection on a red light, he collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Yahaira Castro Montalvo, officials said. Bonner's car then left the roadway and struck a pole and a fire hydrant. Both drivers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
